Published hammock chair capacities run from 285 lb to 500 lb. The European brands publish the lowest and most conservative figures — LA SIESTA lists 285 lb for the Habana Comfort and 355 lb for the Kingsize — while budget sellers commonly list 500 lb. Chair stands publish 300 lb to 400 lb, so on a stand the stand is usually your real limit.

Two chairs that look identical in photographs can publish figures 215 lb apart, and a chair published at 500 lb is routinely sold on a stand published at 330 lb. Neither of those is a lie, exactly — they are different kinds of number — but you cannot buy safely without knowing which kind you are reading.

The pattern is consistent across the category: the brands that publish every dimension also publish the lowest capacity, and the listings that publish only a capacity publish the highest one. LA SIESTA states 285 lb for the Habana Comfort and also states its seat width, seat length, total height and required minimum hanging height of 6 ft 11 in. A 500 lb listing usually states the capacity and nothing else. We treat the first kind as a specification and the second as a claim, and say so on every card.
What to look for when the number has to be right
- A capacity published next to dimensions. A seller who publishes seat width, bar length and minimum hanging height has measured the product. A bare capacity figure tells you nothing about how it was arrived at.
- The spreader bar material. Steel bars appear on the high-capacity listings; bamboo and timber bars appear on the conservative ones. The bar is the part that takes the bending load.

Put those two tables next to each other and the mismatch is obvious. The most common chair capacity on the market is 500 lb. The most common chair stand capacity is 330 lb. Hang the first on the second and your limit is 330 lb, not 500 lb — and no amount of chair rating changes that. The highest stand figure we found anywhere is the FDW at 400 lb, which is still below four of the six chairs in the first table. Hanging height is the other number that disqualifies chairs
Capacity is the question people ask; height is the one that actually stops the purchase. LA SIESTA publishes a required minimum hanging height of 6 ft 11 in for the Habana Comfort and 7 ft 3 in for the Kingsize. The Dkeli stand is a fixed 75.6 in — 6 ft 3.6 in — which is below both. The Sunnydaze adjustable stand reaches 93 in, which clears both. Read the chair height and the stand height together before you read either capacity.
Egg chairs publish differently again
Rigid hanging egg chairs sold with their own stand publish a single figure for the pair, which removes the mismatch problem entirely.
