Rating is not the same as stability
This is the distinction that matters and almost nobody makes it. A capacity rating tells you what the frame can hold statically. Stability tells you how it behaves when two people climb in from the same side at once, which is a very different question and is mostly decided by base width.
That is why the Everyfun's wide anti-tip base is worth as much as its 600 lb rating. A narrow-base 600 lb frame and a wide-base 450 lb frame will feel completely different in use, and the wide one will feel safer.
Where the load actually goes
- Into the frame's mid-span, which is why tube diameter and wall thickness matter.
- Outward at the feet, which is why base width and foot design govern tipping.
- Through the hanging points, usually chains or hooks, which are the least documented part of any stand.
- Into the ground, which is why a 600 lb frame on soft lawn still sinks.

Do you actually need 600 lb?
If two adults will share the hammock, yes — you want margin above your combined weight for the dynamic load of getting in, and 450 lb disappears faster than people expect. If it is one person, a 450 to 550 lb frame is ample and you will get a better-finished stand for the money. The reason to buy heavy anyway is that high-rated frames tend to have thicker tube and wider bases, and both of those you feel every time you use it.

Is a heavy-duty stand more stable?
Usually, but for a slightly different reason than the rating implies. High-rated frames tend to have thicker tube and wider bases, and base width is what actually resists tipping. A wide-base 450 lb stand can feel more secure than a narrow-base 600 lb one.
Can a heavy-duty hammock stand hold two people?
A 600 lb stand comfortably holds two adults with margin. Check the whole chain though — the hammock, the suspension and the hardware each have their own limit, and your setup is capped by the lowest of them.
Are heavy-duty stands harder to move?
Generally yes, with the Tranquillo adjustable being the notable exception at 600 lb and collapsible. Most 600 lb frames are built to stay where you put them.
