A hammock-and-stand set is the right buy when you do not have trees 12 to 17 feet apart and do not want to work out span, capacity and hardware yourself. The set's rating is the real limit — check that number, not the hammock's.

The 275 lb lesson
Algoma sells a quilted hammock rated to 500 lb and a quilted-hammock-and-stand set rated to 275 lb. Same brand, same style of bed. The frame is what changed. Nine feet is the standard, and it is also the trap
Most value sets ship a 9-foot stand. That is fine for the hammock in the box. It becomes a problem the day you want to replace the bed with a 13-foot rope hammock or a Mayan double, because neither will fit. If you think you might upgrade the hammock later, either buy a longer or adjustable stand from the start, or accept that you are buying a closed system. Assembly, and why it matters more than it sounds
The Vivere set assembles in around 15 minutes with no tools. That is not a marketing nicety — a stand you can take apart easily is a stand you will actually store over winter, and storing it over winter is most of what determines whether it lasts. Sets that need tools and an hour tend to stay outside through the wet season, which is exactly what the durability research warns against.
When to skip the set and buy separately

Are all hammock stands the same size?

How long does a hammock stand take to assemble?

Can two people use a hammock with a stand?

Can I leave a hammock and stand set outside?
