Buy a wooden hammock stand for how it looks in a planted garden, not for performance. Timber frames need sealing, prefer to be stored over winter, and generally publish lower capacities than steel — but nothing else pairs with a cotton rope hammock the same way.

A wooden arc and a cotton rope hammock are the classic combination, and it is more than nostalgia — both are traditional materials that want the same conditions. What does not make sense is a wooden stand in a fully exposed yard in a wet climate, carrying a synthetic hammock you intend to leave out all year. The hammock will be fine and the stand will not.
Keeping a wooden stand alive
- Seal it before first use, including the cut ends — that is where water gets in.
- Re-seal annually, or as soon as water stops beading on the surface.
- Keep the feet off wet ground. Timber wicks moisture upward, so the feet rot first.
- Store it dry over winter if you have the space. This matters more for wood than for steel.
- Check the bolts each season. Timber moves with humidity and joints loosen.
