The three measurements to take first

On hard floors that means scratching; on carpet it means permanent compression marks. Felt pads or a rug under the feet solve both, and rubber feet grip better than bare metal on tile.

Indoors is where cotton comes into its own, because the weather objection disappears entirely. A Brazilian or Mayan weave is a genuinely lovely thing in a room and needs none of the synthetic compromises an exposed yard demands. Just check the ceiling height first — both hang high.
