The Best Heavy-Duty Hammocks
A 600 lb hammock on a 275 lb stand is a 275 lb setup. This page covers both halves, because capacity is a system property.

The highest published hammock-and-stand capacities we could verify are 600 lb, from GAFETE, Everyfun, Tranquillo and Arlmont & Co. On the hammock alone, 500 lb (Algoma 2937DL) and 550 lb (MOSFiATA canvas) are the top verified figures.
Part of our hammock style guide. This is the page for anyone who has read a spec sheet and wondered whether the number means anything. Short answer: it means the manufacturer's claim for that component, in isolation, and your real limit is the lowest number in the chain.

What a capacity rating is, and what it is not
A published capacity is a manufacturer's static rating. It is not a tested figure that anyone independently verified, it does not describe dynamic load, and it does not describe what happens after three summers of UV exposure. Treat it as a ceiling to stay well under rather than a target to approach.
Dynamic load is the part people miss. Getting into a hammock is not a static event — dropping into it briefly multiplies the force on the suspension well beyond your body weight. That is the practical reason to leave margin, and the reason a 600 lb rating is worth having even if two adults weigh 380 lb between them.
The chain is only as strong as its weakest link
- The hammock bed — the number on the listing.
- The suspension — chains, straps or rope. Kammok's Python 10 straps are rated 500 lb combined; ENO's Helios are rated 300 lb. That is a real difference in what the setup can carry.
- The anchor — the stand, or the trees. A stand has a published rating; a tree does not, and a dead or damaged limb has no rating at all.
- The hardware — carabiners, S-hooks, eyelets. Usually the least documented and the most likely to be the actual failure point.
Work out the lowest of those four and that is your setup's capacity. We cover the anchor side in hammock stand weight limits and the suspension side in best hammock straps.
Heavy-duty does not have to mean heavy
The Tranquillo 600 lb stand is adjustable and collapsible, which is unusual — most high-capacity frames trade portability for strength. If you need both, that is the combination to look for. If you only need capacity and the stand is staying put, the wide-base designs like the Everyfun are more stable in use, because stability under two people getting in at once is a base-width problem, not a rating problem.
Common questions
How much weight can a double hammock hold?
Published figures for doubles in this registry run from 450 lb (Pawleys Island Original Deluxe, Amazon Basics set, Lazy Daze, Sunnydaze Catalina Beach) up to 600 lb for the GAFETE and Everyfun sets. Many doubles do not publish a capacity at all — where that is the case we leave the field blank rather than guess.
Is a 600 lb hammock stand overkill for one person?
Not really. Margin covers dynamic load when you get in, uneven weight distribution, and the gradual weakening every outdoor product goes through. A heavier rating also usually means thicker tube and a wider base, which you feel as stability rather than as a number.
Do hammock straps have their own weight limit?
Yes, and they are often the lowest number in the setup. The 2026 strap test we cite rates the Kammok Python 10 at 500 lb combined, the ENO Atlas at 400 lb, and the ENO Helios at 300 lb. Match the straps to the load, not just to the hammock.
Are hammocks dangerous?
The realistic risks are falling a short distance and anchor failure, and both are avoidable. Hang low — 16 to 19 inches of clearance is the commonly recommended sit height — check your hardware, stay well inside the published rating, and never anchor to a dead limb.
