Why the stand sets the limit
Algoma sells a quilted hammock rated 500 lb and a quilted hammock-and-stand set rated 275 lb. The bed did not change. The frame did. That 225 lb difference is the whole lesson of this page.
Hammock beds are woven or sewn fabric under tension, which is a load case fabric handles very well. A stand is a frame in bending, which is a load case that demands tube diameter and wall thickness — and those cost money and weight. So stands are almost always the cheaper component to under-build, and they almost always carry the lower number.

Rating versus stability
A capacity rating describes static load. It says nothing about tipping. Two people climbing in from the same side is a stability question, and stability is decided by base width, not by the number on the box.

Leaving margin
- Dynamic load. Dropping into a hammock briefly multiplies the force well above your body weight.
- Uneven distribution. Two people at one end is not two people centered.
- Age. Outdoor frames corrode at joints and feet, and a rated frame is only rated while it is sound.
- The rest of the chain. A 600 lb stand with 300 lb straps is a 300 lb setup.

Why is my hammock rated higher than my stand?
Because they are different structures. A hammock bed is fabric in tension, which is efficient; a stand is a frame in bending, which needs material. Your setup's limit is the lower of the two.
