The Best Camping Hammocks for Big Guys
Two published numbers decide this, and most listings give you neither: the weight limit and the height the maker says the hammock fits. Here are the models that print both.

The Hennessy Safari Deluxe Zip XXL is the pick: Hennessy publishes a 350 lb limit, a fit up to 7 ft tall, and a 144 x 59 in bottom fabric, and describes it as its deepest and widest hammock. The Onewind Aerie 11 publishes the highest load figure here at 500 lb on an 11 ft by 68 in bed; the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC is the backpacking answer at 11 ft.
Part of our camping hammocks hub. The problem with shopping this category is that the words are worthless. "Double" describes width, not capacity. "XL" means whatever the brand wants. The only things that mean anything are the figures a maker publishes, and the two that matter for a larger or taller camper are the weight limit and the stated height fit. Every pick below publishes at least one of them, and the ones that publish both are at the top.

Read that table twice, because it contains the counter-intuitive fact of this category: the hammock with the biggest bed does not have the biggest number. The Blackbird XLC is 11 ft long and fits someone 7 ft tall, yet Warbonnet publishes a comfort range to 250 lb. Length and capacity are independent specifications, and a big-and-tall camper usually needs both — which is why there is no single answer here, only a pair of columns to read across.
1. The highest published capacity
Hennessy Hammock Safari Deluxe Zip XXL
The widest and deepest body Hennessy builds, at 350 lb and 12 feet of bottom fabric — the one the brand itself points couples and larger campers at.
Specifications
- 350 lb / 159 kg weight limit
- Fits users up to 7 ft / 213 cm tall
- Packed weight 4 lb 7 oz, not including the 4 oz webbing straps
- Packed size 5 in x 8 in x 12 in
- Bottom fabric 144 in x 59 in
- 70d polyurethane-coated polyester ripstop body, 30d No-See-Um netting
- Hexagonal rainfly, 143 in centerline x 120 in wide
- 10 ft support ropes, 2,100 lb test
- Hennessy describes it as its deepest and widest hammock, for larger people or couples whose combined weight stays under 350 lb
Source: hennessyhammock.com product page (Safari Deluxe Zip XXL), 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- The highest published weight limit in the line, and the only Hennessy the brand describes as a two-person body
- The hexagonal fly is far larger than the parallelogram tarps on the rest of the range
- 144 in of bottom fabric is two feet longer than the Expedition's
Where it falls short
- 4 lb 7 oz packed — the heaviest hammock Hennessy sells and no kind of backpacking weight
- 350 lb for two people is a tight budget once you add gear
- Needs a wider tree span than the shorter bodies to hang at a sensible angle

2. Backpacking at 11 ft
Warbonnet Blackbird XLC
The long version of the Blackbird: 11 ft of body and a published rating to 7 ft of user, at a weight that still belongs in a backpack.
Specifications
- 11 ft (132 in) body length
- 63 in standard width
- 111 in ridgeline
- Rated for users up to 7 ft
- Single layer: max comfort range to 250 lb, max load 300 lb
- Single layer weighs 19 oz without suspension
- Integrated bug netting
Source: Warbonnet Outdoors published specifications and hammock comparison chart, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- The extra two feet over the Original Blackbird is exactly the dimension tall sleepers are short of
- 19 oz for an 11 ft hammock with the net built in is a genuinely light full system
- Configurable at order time — layer, width and netting are chosen rather than fixed
Where it falls short
- Ordered direct from Warbonnet, so expect cottage-brand lead times rather than shelf stock
- Max load is 300 lb, lower than several shorter hammocks on this page
- The integrated net comes along on bug-free nights whether you want it or not

3. The tallest published height rating
Hennessy Hammock Explorer Deluxe Zip XL
Hennessy publishes a user-height limit rather than leaving you to work it out from the length, and the XL's is 7 ft — the clearest answer on this page for a tall camper.
Specifications
- Fits users up to 7 ft / 213 cm tall
- 300 lb / 136 kg weight limit
- Packed weight 3 lb 5 oz, not including the 4 oz webbing straps
- 70D polyurethane-coated polyester ripstop
- Attached mosquito netting, detachable rainfly, support ropes and compression sack included
- 42 in Tree Hugger webbing straps included
- Asymmetric lay with a structural ridgeline
- Side entry with a #10 YKK zipper
Source: hennessyhammock.com product page (Explorer Deluxe Zip XL), 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- A published height rating removes the guesswork that every other spec sheet in this category leaves you with
- Net, fly and suspension are all in the box, so there is no second purchase before the first night out
- The asymmetric cut is designed around the diagonal lay rather than leaving you to find it
Where it falls short
- Over three pounds packed — this is a car-camping and weekend weight, not an ultralight one
- The asymmetric system and side-zip entry take a few nights to get used to
- Polyester ripstop has less stretch than nylon, which some people read as less forgiving

4. The most published length for the money
Onewind Aerie 11 ft Double Camping Hammock
An 11 ft by 68 in single-panel bed with a 500 lb load rating, a removable bug net and straps in the box — the value route to a long hammock.
Specifications
- Bed size 11 ft x 68 in
- 500 lb max load
- Total weight 2.6 lb; bed alone 0.95 lb
- 2.1 oz 70D hexagon ripstop nylon
- Removable bottom-entry polyester bug net
- UHMWPE ridgeline, 1500 lb breaking strength
- Two 12 ft tree straps, cinch buckles, continuous loops and stuff sack included
Source: onewindoutdoors.com product page (Aerie 11 ft Double) and Amazon listing, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- 68 in of width on an 11 ft body is the most usable diagonal on this page
- Single-panel bed means no center seam ridge under your back
- Ridgeline and straps are included, so the hang angle is repeatable out of the box
Where it falls short
- Bottom-entry netting is fiddly compared with a side zip
- Thin 70D nylon wants care around rough bark and buckles
- A less established brand than ENO or Kammok, with a shorter support history

5. Heavy-duty camping fabric
MOSFiATA Canvas Camping Hammock
550 lb on 320-gram canvas — heavier than nylon and rated accordingly.
Specifications
- 550 lb capacity
- 320G canvas
Source: 2026 heavy-duty hammock research. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- 550 lb is well above the typical nylon camping hammock
- Canvas resists abrasion better than thin nylon
Where it falls short
- Canvas is heavy and slow to dry — a car-camping fabric, not a backpacking one
- Packed size is not published
No licensed photograph of this product is available to us yet.
6. Best for side sleepers
Warbonnet Ridgerunner Bridge Hammock
A bridge hammock with aluminum spreader bars at both ends, holding the bed flat instead of curved, which is the design side and stomach sleepers are actually looking for.
Specifications
- Bridge design with aluminum spreader bars at the head and foot ends
- 44 in wide at head and foot, 32 in in the middle
- CleverHiker lists 10.1 ft x 3.7 ft and 2 lb 9.3 oz for hammock, guylines and spreader bars, plus 8.5 oz of suspension
- 250 lb capacity in the double-layer version; the single layer is rated lower
- The double layer acts as a sleeve for a sleeping pad
- Integrated zippered bug net that stows in its own pocket
- Saddlebag storage pockets along both long sides
Source: Warbonnet Outdoors published specifications and CleverHiker's Ridgerunner review, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- Spreader bars hold a flat bed, so you are not fighting a curve to sleep on your side
- The double layer takes a pad, which solves under-insulation without a quilt
- The bug net is built in and stows away rather than coming off
Where it falls short
- 250 lb is a low capacity for a hammock this size
- Spreader bars are bulky in a pack, which is the price of the flat lay
- Made to order from a cottage brand rather than held in stock
No licensed photograph of this product is available to us yet.
Length buys comfort, width buys the diagonal
Length is what stops your calves from being pushed up by the far end of the hammock. The rule of thumb that holds across the models here is that you want roughly two feet more hammock than you are tall, which is why an 11 ft hammock is the standard answer for anyone over about six feet. Both the Blackbird XLC and the Onewind Aerie 11 are 11 ft; the Safari Deluxe XXL's 144 in of bottom fabric is 12 ft.
Width is what lets you lie diagonally instead of straight down the centerline, and diagonal is flatter. The Onewind Aerie 11's 68 in and the Blackbird XLC's 63 in are both generous; the Safari Deluxe XXL's 59 in is narrower on paper but Hennessy's asymmetric cut is designed around a diagonal lay rather than a wide rectangle. See hammocks for tall people for the backyard equivalent of this argument.
Where the real limit lives
It is almost never the hammock. A 500 lb bed on a pair of 400 lb straps is a 400 lb system, and hardware is usually the least documented link in the chain. The Onewind Aerie ships with two 12 ft tree straps, cinch buckles, continuous loops and a ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene ridgeline published at a 1,500 lb breaking strength, which is unusually complete. For everything else, check the strap rating against the bed rating before you trust either — the full version of this argument is on hammock weight limits.
If you want to lie flat as well as long
The Ridgerunner is in this list for one reason: it is the only design here that holds the bed flat with spreader bars, which is what a heavier camper who sleeps on their side is usually chasing. The honest caveat is in the table — Warbonnet publishes 250 lb for the double layer, which is the lowest capacity on this page. It is a comfort pick, not a capacity pick. If capacity is the binding constraint, the Onewind Aerie 11 or the MOSFiATA canvas hammock are the numbers to beat.
Common questions
What is the best camping hammock for a big guy?
The Hennessy Safari Deluxe Zip XXL, because Hennessy publishes both numbers that matter: a 350 lb limit and a fit up to 7 ft tall, on a 144 x 59 in bottom fabric. Hennessy describes it as its deepest and widest hammock.
What is the highest weight limit on a camping hammock here?
The MOSFiATA canvas hammock at a published 550 lb, then the Onewind Aerie 11 ft Double at 500 lb. Neither publishes a height fit, so pair the capacity figure with the length figure before deciding.
How long should a hammock be if I am over six feet tall?
Around 11 ft. The models here that publish a fit up to 7 ft — the Blackbird XLC and both Hennessy Zip XL models — are all 11 ft or longer in bed length.
Is a double hammock enough for a larger camper?
Not necessarily. Double describes width, not capacity, and published figures across this site range from 275 lb to 600 lb for products carrying that word. Read the listing's number instead of the size name.
Do straps limit how much the hammock can hold?
Frequently, yes — straps are often the lowest figure in the system. The 2026 strap test we cite publishes 300 lb for the ENO Helios up to 500 lb for the Kammok Python 10, so check the strap rating against the bed rating.
