Sizing a tarp: coverage is the spec that matters
Tarp length keeps rain off your head and feet. Tarp width keeps wind-driven rain off your sides, and it is the dimension people under-buy.

The Superfly is the standout on that table — four-season coverage with doors at a lighter weight than the smallest ENO tarp, because silpoly at 20D is a very different fabric from 70D nylon. The trade is durability: thin silpoly wants care around sharp branches.
Assembling a complete shelter
- Hammock — gathered-end, sized so you can lie diagonally.
- Suspension — straps at least an inch wide, rated above your load. See best hammock straps.
- Bug net — integrated, or a separate net matched to your hammock.
- Tarp — pitched on its own ridgeline so it stays up when you take the hammock down.
- Under-insulation — an underquilt or pad, because the net and tarp do nothing about cold underneath.
Fit is not universal
ENO's Guardian bug net is compatible with all ENO hammocks except the Sky-series, DayLoft and SuperNest. That last exclusion catches people out: the DayLoft is a spreader-bar hammock, and spreader-bar hammocks do not take gathered-end nets. Check compatibility on the listing, particularly if you are mixing brands.

Which hammocks come with a bug net?
The Warbonnet Original Blackbird includes one, and the Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip is built around one — Treeline Review names it their best pick with a mosquito net. Several DD Hammocks models include netting too. Most standard camping hammocks do not.
Do I need a rainfly if I have a bug net?
Yes. A net keeps insects out and does nothing about rain. A tarp is the only thing that makes a hammock a shelter, and without one a single overnight shower ends the trip.
What size tarp do I need for a hammock?
Enough length to cover the hammock's ends and enough width to block wind-driven rain. The ENO ProFly at 10 ft 6 in by 6 ft 4 in is a standard three-season size; the Warbonnet Superfly at 132 by 120 inches with doors is a four-season one.
Will any bug net fit my hammock?
No. Nets are built for gathered-end hammocks of a particular size, and manufacturers publish exclusions — ENO's Guardian does not fit the Sky-series, DayLoft or SuperNest. Check before buying, especially across brands.
