The straps question, properly counted
An ENO DoubleNest plus Atlas straps is 19 oz plus 9 oz — 28 oz for a complete hanging setup rated 400 lb by the hammock and 400 lb combined by the straps. A DoubleOwl is 26 oz including its 9 ft straps and publishes 500 lb. Counted as systems rather than as hammocks, Wise Owl is lighter and higher-rated, and that is the single strongest argument for it.
Wise Owl does not publish a capacity for its included straps, though. That matters, because on the ENO side we can tell you the Atlas is 400 lb combined and the Helios 300 lb, and hammock weight limits is built on exactly that kind of number.
Where ENO is worth the extra step
- Weight. 19 oz against 26 oz for the doubles, 16 oz against 22.5 oz for the singles.
- Fabric. 70D nylon taffeta has a finer hand than 210T parachute nylon. It is the difference you notice against skin, not in a spec table.
- Published compatibility. ENO states which of its hammocks take the Ember and Vulcan underquilts. Nothing equivalent exists on the Wise Owl side.
- The accessory ecosystem. Guardian bug net, ProFly tarps, Atlas and Helios straps, Nomad and Parkway stands. If you intend to build a full shelter, everything is designed to fit.
- Availability. ENO is stocked in nearly every outdoor store, which matters when something breaks mid-trip.

The verdict
For a first hammock that will mostly hang in a garden or at a car campsite: Wise Owl DoubleOwl. More capacity, more bed, straps included, less money. For a hammock that will become a sleep system with a net, a tarp and an underquilt, or that has to be carried: ENO DoubleNest, and budget for the Atlas straps. Neither choice is a mistake; they are answers to different questions.
