Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Review

The brand that undercut ENO by putting the straps in the bag. Four years on, that is still the whole argument, and it is a better one than the spec sheet suggests.

Wise Owl Outfitters Talon Hammock Straps

Wise Owl Outfitters makes the value answer to ENO. The DoubleOwl publishes 500 lb on a 10 ft by 6 ft 6 in bed and includes a set of 9 ft straps and two carabiners; the SingleOwl publishes 400 lb at 9 ft by 4 ft 6 in. Both are heavier and coarser than the ENO equivalents, and both arrive ready to hang, which ENO does not.

Part of our camping hammocks hub. We have not hung one ourselves — see how we pick — so everything below is either the published specification from Wise Owl's own product pages, a figure from a named independent test, or a fact about the live retail listing, and each is labelled as such.

What it does well

  • Straps are included; with an ENO they are a separate purchase
  • 500 lb published, 100 lb above the DoubleNest
  • A 10 ft body is longer than the DoubleNest's 9 ft 6 in

Where it falls short

  • 26 oz for the hammock alone, against 19 oz for a DoubleNest
  • 210T nylon is a heavier, coarser fabric than 70D taffeta

2. One person, straps included

Wise Owl Outfitters SingleOwl Hammock

The single-width Owl: 400 lb, straps and carabiners in the box, and a smaller pack than the double.

  • Packs smaller than the DoubleOwl

Where it falls short

  • 22.5 oz against 16 oz for a SingleNest
  • A 9 ft body limits the diagonal lay for taller users

No licensed photograph of this product is available to us yet.

3. The straps Wise Owl sells separately

Wise Owl Outfitters Talon Hammock Straps

38 loops across a combined 20 feet with two carabiners in the bag — the suspension Wise Owl packs with its hammocks, sold on its own.

Specifications

  • Combined 20 ft long across the pair
  • 38 loops across the pair
  • Two carabiners included
  • Listed as easily adjustable and tree friendly

Source: Wise Owl Outfitters Talon Hammock Straps Amazon listing, verified live via the Creators API, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.

What it does well

  • 38 loops is finer hang-angle adjustment than the 15-point ENO Atlas
  • A combined 20 ft reaches round trunks a 9 ft strap cannot
  • Carabiners are in the bag, so there is nothing else to source

Where it falls short

  • Combined capacity and webbing width are not published on the listing we verified
  • Not weighed in the independent strap test we track, unlike the ENO and Kammok straps

The line, decoded

Wise Owl names its hammocks after owls, which is charming and unhelpful when you are trying to work out what you are buying. The current line on their own store is: the SingleOwl, a one-person hammock; the DoubleOwl, the two-person version and the model almost everyone means; a Liberty DoubleOwl 250th Anniversary edition and a camo collection, both of which are the DoubleOwl in different fabric; and the Owlet, a kids' hammock. Around those sit the Talon XL tree straps, the SnugNet bug net, The Defender hammock sleeve, The Flare underquilt, a waterproof tarp, and The Perch, a backyard stand.

That accessory list is worth pausing on, because it tells you what kind of company this is. Wise Owl is not a cottage brand making one perfect hammock; it is a full-line value brand that will sell you every piece of the system. Whether that is good news depends on whether you want the cheapest complete setup or the best individual parts.

Wise Owl figures from their own DoubleOwl and SingleOwl product pages; ENO figures from Treeline Review's 2026 spec table and REI. The Talon strap figures come from its live Amazon listing, verified through the Creators API on 2026-10-21 (ASIN B01FOVN8TE, in stock). Where a figure is not published we say so rather than estimating it.

Three things fall out of that table. The DoubleOwl beats the DoubleNest by 100 lb of published capacity and six inches of body length, and loses on weight by seven ounces and on width by a couple of inches. The SingleOwl matches an ENO SingleNest's 400 lb rating and carries 6.5 oz more to do it. And on both Wise Owl models the straps are included, which is a real cost difference rather than a rounding error — the whole subject of do hammocks come with straps.

Where Wise Owl genuinely wins

Completeness, and it is not close. A DoubleOwl arrives as a hangable object: bed, carabiners, 9 ft straps, stuff sack. A DoubleNest arrives as a bed and two carabiners, and until you have bought suspension it is laundry. For a first camping hammock, or a hammock bought as a gift, that difference decides the purchase — which is why the DoubleOwl is a pick on the best hammocks for beginners.

The 500 lb figure on the DoubleOwl is the other real advantage. Published capacity in this category clusters at 400 lb, so 500 lb on a two-person bed covers two adults with margin instead of at the edge. Read it as the hammock's number only, though: the straps, the carabiners and whatever you hang from all have their own limits, and the lowest one is yours. Our hammock weight limits guide works through how those stack.

The 10 ft body is a quiet third win. Length is what lets a taller sleeper lie diagonally without their feet riding up the end, and 10 ft is six inches more than a DoubleNest gives you. If height is your binding constraint, hammocks for tall people ranks the category on exactly that.

Where it is genuinely weak

  • Weight. 26 oz for the DoubleOwl against 19 oz for a DoubleNest, before you add anything. That is nearly half a pound of pack weight for the same job, and it is why CleverHiker-style backpacking shortlists do not feature this brand.
  • Fabric feel. 210T parachute nylon is heavier and coarser than the 70D taffeta ENO uses and much coarser than the 40D recycled ripstop on a Kammok Roo. Nobody is upgrading to a Wise Owl for the fabric.
  • No published packed weight for the strap-and-hammock system. You can add the hammock weight and guess the rest, and we would rather say that than publish an estimate.
  • The Amazon listing is one parent for both sizes. Which brings us to the honest problem on this page.

We checked availability before featuring anything here, and Wise Owl camping hammocks are unambiguously purchasable: five separate ASINs came back live and in stock on 2026-10-21, between roughly the mid-twenties and the mid-forties in dollars. But every one of them is the same parent listing, titled "Wise Owl Outfitters Camping Hammock – up to 500lbs Portable Hammock with Tree Straps ... Single or Double". Nothing in that title identifies which variant an ASIN is.

Our rule is that a product card may only carry an ASIN whose live listing title verifies the brand and the model. "Single or Double" verifies neither, so we declined to assign one, and the DoubleOwl and SingleOwl buy buttons here go to a tagged Wise Owl search instead of a detail page. That is the same call we made on the Warbonnet review, where the brand sells direct and no Amazon listing exists at all. It costs us a little conversion and it means we never send you to the wrong size.

The Talon straps are the exception and did verify cleanly: 38 loops across a combined 20 ft with two carabiners, resolved to a confirmed live listing, so that card shows a real current price through our feed.

The straps, since they are the brand's whole pitch

Two things to separate here. The straps included with a DoubleOwl or SingleOwl are published as 9 ft. The Talon straps sold separately are published as a combined 20 ft across the pair with 38 loops and two carabiners — so roughly 10 ft a side, and finer adjustment than the 15-point ENO Atlas offers.

What Wise Owl does not publish on the listing we verified is a combined capacity or a webbing width, and neither Talon nor the bundled straps appear in the 2026 99Boulders strap test, which is the independent test we cite elsewhere. So we cannot put them on a like-for-like line against the Kammok Python 10 at 500 lb and 8.2 oz, or the Atlas at 400 lb and 9 oz. If you want tested numbers, best hammock straps is the page; if you want straps that arrive with the hammock, this is the brand.

One thing to check whatever you buy: webbing should be at least an inch wide where it touches bark. Narrow strapping concentrates load and damages the cambium, which is the point of are hammocks bad for trees.

Who should buy one

  • A first-time hammock buyer, because it hangs the day it arrives and publishes a generous capacity.
  • Two people sharing a hammock, where the 500 lb figure and the 10 ft body both earn their place.
  • Anyone buying a hammock as a gift, for the same reason — no second purchase to explain.
  • Car campers and backyard users, where seven extra ounces is irrelevant.

And who should not: anyone counting grams. If the hammock is going in a pack for multi-day miles, the weight penalty is real and the right pages are best backpacking hammocks and hammock vs tent for backpacking.

Common questions

Are Wise Owl hammocks any good?

Yes, for what they are: the value answer to ENO. The DoubleOwl publishes 500 lb on a 10 ft by 6 ft 6 in bed and includes 9 ft straps and two carabiners, so it hangs the day it arrives. The trade is weight and fabric feel — 26 oz against 19 oz for a DoubleNest, in coarser 210T parachute nylon.

How much weight does a Wise Owl hammock hold?

Wise Owl publishes 500 lb for the DoubleOwl and 400 lb for the SingleOwl. Those are the hammock's own figures; the straps, carabiners and whatever you hang from each have their own limits, and the lowest of them is your real limit.

What is the difference between the SingleOwl and the DoubleOwl?

Size and rating. The SingleOwl is published at 9 ft by 4 ft 6 in, 400 lb and 22.5 oz; the DoubleOwl at 10 ft by 6 ft 6 in, 500 lb and 26 oz. Both include carabiners, 9 ft straps and a stuff sack. For one person the DoubleOwl is still the better buy, because the extra width gives you a diagonal to lie along.

Do Wise Owl hammocks come with straps?

Yes — both the SingleOwl and the DoubleOwl are published as including a set of 9 ft straps and two D-shaped carabiners. That is the brand's main point of difference from ENO, which sells its Atlas and Helios straps separately. Wise Owl also sells the Talon straps on their own, published at a combined 20 ft with 38 loops.

Is a Wise Owl hammock good for backpacking?

It works, but it is not the right tool. At 26 oz for the DoubleOwl plus straps, it is heavier than the hammocks that appear on backpacking shortlists — a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC publishes 19 oz with the bug net built in. Wise Owl makes more sense for car camping, festivals and the backyard.
