Do Hammocks Come with Straps?

Often not, and the listing rarely says so clearly. Here is what each maker on this site publishes as included, and what to add when it is nothing.

ENO Atlas Hammock Suspension System

It depends on the brand, and the answer is frequently no. Wise Owl includes two 9 ft straps and two carabiners with the DoubleOwl; Hennessy includes 42 in Tree Hugger webbing straps with the Explorer Deluxe Zip XL; ENO sells straps separately; and Grand Trunk states outright that tree straps are not included with the Skeeter Beeter Pro. Check before you travel.

Part of our guides hub. This is the single most common first-trip failure in hammock camping, and it happens because the word "suspension" is doing a lot of hidden work on product listings. A hammock can ship with carabiners, with cord, with short tree-protection webbing, with full-length adjustable straps, or with nothing — and all five get described as a complete hammock somewhere.

Why cord is not the same as straps

Two of the hammocks above ship with cord rather than webbing, and that distinction matters for the tree rather than for you. A thin line under load concentrates pressure on bark and can cut through the cambium layer; wide webbing spreads it. That is why Hennessy supplies 42 in Tree Hugger webbing to go round the trunk even though the actual suspension is rope, and it is why Grand Trunk's pre-knotted cord is not a complete answer by itself. The ecology of this is covered on are hammocks bad for trees.

Many parks that permit hammocks require a minimum webbing width for exactly this reason, so arriving with cord alone can mean not hanging at all.

What to buy when nothing is included

The published figures from the 2026 strap test we cite make this an easy shortlist. The ENO Atlas is the default: 400 lb combined, 9 ft long, 9 oz, with 15 attachment points. The Kammok Python 10 is the one to buy if capacity is the binding constraint — 500 lb combined, 10 ft 2.5 in, 8.2 oz, 20 attachment points, and it is both longer and lighter than the Atlas. The Grand Trunk Trunk Straps give you 10 ft and 18 attachment points at 400 lb for less money, at 12 oz.

Attachment points are the spec people ignore and then wish they had read. More loops means finer control over the hang angle without re-wrapping the tree, which is the difference between getting the sag right in one attempt and in five. Backyard hammocks are a different story

Spreader-bar hammocks usually do include their hanging hardware, because the chains are part of the product rather than an accessory. Pawleys Island ships its Original Deluxe with extension chains and tree hooks, which is why that hammock needs no extra purchase for a tree hang — only a wide enough span. If the hammock is going on a frame instead, the frame comes with its own hooks and the question disappears.

Common questions

Do hammocks come with straps?

Some do and many do not. Wise Owl includes two 9 ft straps and carabiners with the DoubleOwl, Hennessy includes 42 in Tree Hugger webbing, Onewind includes two 12 ft straps — while ENO sells straps separately and Grand Trunk states tree straps are not included with the Skeeter Beeter Pro.

Does the ENO DoubleNest come with straps?

No. ENO sells the hammock with a stuff sack and sells suspension separately. The usual pairing is the ENO Atlas: 400 lb combined, 9 ft long, 9 oz, 15 attachment points.

Is the cord supplied with a hammock good enough?

Not against bark. Thin line concentrates load and can damage the cambium, and many parks set a minimum webbing width. Use wide webbing round the trunk even if the suspension itself is rope.

What length straps do I need?

Nine to ten feet covers most trees, which is why that is the length nearly every maker settles on. Longer straps buy you more candidate trees rather than more comfort — see how long should hammock straps be.

Do backyard hammocks include hanging hardware?

Usually yes. Spreader-bar rope hammocks such as the Pawleys Island Original Deluxe ship with extension chains and tree hooks, because the chains are part of the hammock rather than an accessory.
