LA SIESTA Hammocks Review
A German brand selling Colombian hammocks, and the only maker in this category that tells you the minimum span and ceiling height before you buy. That one habit is most of the reason to pick them.

LA SIESTA is worth it if you want a classic woven hammock with its dimensions published. The organic cotton Modesta is the one to buy for a shaded garden, and the polypropylene Brisa is the one to buy if the hammock lives outside. Both publish 355 lb and a 10 ft 2 in minimum span, which is the figure most brands leave off.
Part of our hammocks hub. We have not hung these ourselves — see how we pick — so everything below is either published by LA SIESTA on its own US product pages or a verified fact about the live retail listing, and each is labeled as such.

The brand is a German company whose cotton hammocks are woven in Colombia, with the padded kids models made in India. It sits in a different part of the market from the brands most US buyers meet first. ENO and Wise Owl sell nylon camping hammocks; Pawleys Island sells American rope. LA SIESTA sells the European classic-woven hammock: a wide fabric bed with gathered ends, no spreader bar, in cotton or weatherproof synthetic, sized single, double or king.
1. The organic cotton classic
LA SIESTA Modesta Organic Cotton Double Hammock
The classic LA SIESTA bed: dense organic cotton at 340 g/m2, the heaviest weave in their range and the reason the brand has the reputation it has.
Specifications
- 355 lb carrying capacity
- Double size, 11 ft 6 in long
- 100% organic cotton at 340 g/m2
- 4.0 lb product weight
- Required minimum hanging distance 10 ft 2 in; minimum height 5 ft 1 in
- Made in Colombia
Source: us.lasiesta.com Modesta product page, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- 340 g/m2 is a dense weave, and density is what you feel as support rather than sag
- Organic cotton is the softest surface in the LA SIESTA range
- Double width gives one person a proper diagonal to lie along
Where it falls short
- Cotton absorbs water and should not live outside
- 4 lb and no carry bag listed, so it is not a travel hammock
- Needs the same 10 ft 2 in span as the Brisa

2. The one that stays outside
LA SIESTA Brisa Weather-Resistant Double Hammock
The polypropylene Brisa is the LA SIESTA hammock built to live outdoors, which makes it the one to buy if the hammock is not coming in at night.
Specifications
- 355 lb carrying capacity
- Double size, 11 ft 6 in long
- 100% polypropylene at 180 g/m2
- 2.2 lb product weight
- Required minimum hanging distance 10 ft 2 in; minimum height 5 ft 1 in
- LA SIESTA states the fabric withstands sun and rain and that the hammock is designed for permanent outdoor use
Source: us.lasiesta.com Brisa product page, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- The only hammock in the line the maker positions for permanent outdoor use
- Quick-drying, so a shower does not end the afternoon
- At 2.2 lb it is half the weight of the cotton Modesta and far easier to move
Where it falls short
- Polypropylene has a firmer, slicker hand than organic cotton
- 355 lb is a mid-range figure, not a heavy-duty one
- Needs a 10 ft 2 in span, which rules out short walls and narrow balconies

3. A travel hammock with the suspension included
LA SIESTA Colibri 3.0 Double Travel Hammock
LA SIESTA's answer to the parachute-nylon crowd, and the only one of them that ships with tree straps and aluminum hooks rather than selling them to you afterwards.
Specifications
- 395 lb carrying capacity
- 10 ft 6 in bed length, 6 ft 3 in bed width; LA SIESTA lists the size as Double (11 ft 6 in)
- 1.8 lb product weight
- 100% polyamide, described by LA SIESTA as Nylon Trilobal; polyester straps and rope; airplane-aluminum CrocodileHooks
- Includes tree-protection straps 51 in long and 1.6 in wide; full strap length 126 in
- Required minimum hanging distance 10 ft 2 in; minimum height 5 ft 1 in
- The single version publishes 395 lb on a 9 ft 10 in by 5 ft 7 in bed at 1.5 lb, with an 8 ft 10 in minimum span
Source: us.lasiesta.com Colibri 3.0 double and single product pages, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- Straps and hooks are in the bag, so it hangs the day it arrives
- The 1.6 in wide tree straps are wide enough to be tree-safe as supplied
- 6 ft 3 in of bed width is wider than most double camping hammocks publish
Where it falls short
- 395 lb is below the 400 to 500 lb figures the big nylon brands publish
- 1.8 lb is heavier than an ultralight backpacking hammock
- No bug net or tarp in the system, so a buggy season means separate purchases
No licensed photograph of this product is available to us yet.
4. Best hammock chair overall
LA SIESTA Habana Comfort Organic Cotton Hammock Chair
The reference hanging chair: organic cotton, a bamboo spreader bar and a stainless swivel, with every dimension published before you buy.
Specifications
- 285 lb carrying capacity
- Seating width 3 ft 9 in, seating length 5 ft 11 in
- Total height 5 ft 3 in, spreader bar 3 ft 7 in
- Required minimum hanging height 6 ft 11 in
- 100% organic cotton; FSC-certified bamboo bar; stainless steel swivel
Source: us.lasiesta.com Habana Comfort product page, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- Publishes capacity, seat width and the minimum ceiling height, which most chairs do not
- The swivel means the cords never wind up on themselves
- Cotton is the softest surface in the category against bare skin
Where it falls short
- 285 lb is lower than the 500 lb figures quoted on budget chairs
- Cotton is an indoor or covered-porch fabric, not a leave-outside one
5. Two kids, or a kid and a parent
LA SIESTA Moki Dolphy Kids Hammock
The padded Moki in double width, and the only kids' hammock here that publishes a certified suspension alongside its capacity — which is most of what you are buying when a child is the occupant.
Specifications
- 355 lb carrying capacity
- Recommended for ages 3 to 99
- 11 ft 6 in cloth length, 5 ft 3 in fabric width
- Required minimum hanging distance 11 ft 10 in; minimum height 5 ft 11 in
- 100% organic cotton with a padded filling (70% polyurethane, 30% polyester)
- Two ropes, 9 ft 10 in each, 0.28 in diameter
- Removable SmartLock safety hook and MultiSpot mounting system; LA SIESTA states the suspension systems are TUV Rheinland certified and that the product carries a Children's Product Certificate
- 6.4 lb product weight; made in India
Source: us.lasiesta.com Moki Dolphy product page and the live Amazon listing, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- Publishes a capacity, an age range and a minimum hanging height, which almost nothing else in this category does
- Padded edges and a closed, round safety hook rather than an open carabiner
- 355 lb and 5 ft 3 in of width means it holds two children, or a parent reading to one
- Suspension parts come off, so the cotton can go in a machine
Where it falls short
- An 11 ft 10 in minimum span is a garden measurement, not a bedroom one
- 6.4 lb, so it is not a hammock a child carries anywhere
- Cotton and padding are for indoors or a covered porch, not a season outside

6. Tight spans and small rooms
LA SIESTA Iri Cotton Kids Hammock
The same kid-sized cotton bed as the Moki without the padding or the hardware, and it hangs in a span under five feet, which is the number that decides a bedroom.
Specifications
- 175 lb carrying capacity
- Recommended for ages 3 to 10
- 6 ft 11 in cloth length, 3 ft 7 in fabric width
- Required minimum distance 4 ft 11 in
- 100% cotton at 278 g/m2; polyester suspension
- 1.7 lb product weight
- Made in Colombia
Source: us.lasiesta.com Iri product page, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- A 4 ft 11 in minimum span is the shortest on this page, which opens up small rooms
- Under two pounds, so it moves between rooms and gardens easily
- Same published age range and capacity as the rest of the LA SIESTA kids line
Where it falls short
- LA SIESTA does not list what hardware is in the box, so budget for a suspension set
- Unpadded, so a plainer bed than the Moki
- Cotton is an indoor fabric

The range, decoded
LA SIESTA's naming is cheerful and tells you nothing, so here is the map. The classic hammocks are the core: Modesta in organic cotton (single and double), Flora and Bossanova in organic cotton at king size, and Brisa in weatherproof polypropylene. The spreader-bar hammocks are Alisio in single and double, and Alabama, a padded king. The travel hammock is Colibri 3.0, in single and double, which is their parachute-fabric answer to a camping hammock. The kids line is Iri in plain cotton and Moki in padded cotton. Then the hanging chairs — Habana, Domingo and Cumbia — and the Joki kids' nests, which we cover in best hammock chairs and best hammock swings for kids.
Two structural things follow from that list. First, there is no bug net, no tarp and no underquilt anywhere in it: LA SIESTA is a lounging brand that makes one camping hammock, not a shelter system. Second, the sizing is honest about span. A king hammock is 13 ft 1 in long, and a 13 ft hammock needs a span most backyards do not have — which is the whole subject of what size hammock do I need.
The published numbers, side by side
| Model | Published capacity | Size and fabric | Minimum span / height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modesta double | 355 lb | Double, 11 ft 6 in; 100% organic cotton at 340 g/m2; 4.0 lb | 10 ft 2 in / 5 ft 1 in |
| Brisa double | 355 lb | Double, 11 ft 6 in; 100% polypropylene at 180 g/m2; 2.2 lb | 10 ft 2 in / 5 ft 1 in |
| Colibri 3.0 double | 395 lb | Bed 10 ft 6 in x 6 ft 3 in; 100% polyamide; 1.8 lb; straps and aluminum hooks included | 10 ft 2 in / 5 ft 1 in |
| Colibri 3.0 single | 395 lb | Bed 9 ft 10 in x 5 ft 7 in; 100% polyamide; 1.5 lb; straps and aluminum hooks included | 8 ft 10 in / 4 ft 5 in |
| Moki Dolphy (kids, double) | 355 lb | 11 ft 6 in x 5 ft 3 in; padded organic cotton; 6.4 lb; ages 3 to 99 | 11 ft 10 in / 5 ft 11 in |
| Iri (kids) | 175 lb | 6 ft 11 in x 3 ft 7 in; 100% cotton at 278 g/m2; 1.7 lb; ages 3 to 10 | 4 ft 11 in / not published |
| Habana Comfort chair | 285 lb | Seat 3 ft 9 in x 5 ft 11 in; organic cotton; bamboo bar; stainless swivel | n/a / 6 ft 11 in |
That last column is the reason to take this brand seriously. Go and look at ten hammock listings on any marketplace and count how many tell you the span the hammock needs or the ceiling height the chair needs. LA SIESTA publishes both on every product, and it is the number that decides whether your purchase works at all. Our hammock hanging distance and angle page exists because almost nobody else does this.
What LA SIESTA does better than the brands around it
- It publishes fabric density. 340 g/m2 for the cotton Modesta, 278 g/m2 for the Iri, 180 g/m2 for the polypropylene Brisa. Density is what you feel as support rather than sag, and nobody else in this category quotes it.
- It publishes a span and a height for every product. Including the chairs, where the required hanging height is the single most common returned-item reason in the category.
- Its kids products publish an age range and a certified suspension. LA SIESTA states that the Moki's suspension systems are TUV Rheinland certified and that the product carries a Children's Product Certificate. Compare that to a generic listing with a weight figure and nothing else.
- The synthetic option is a real one. The Brisa is positioned by the maker for permanent outdoor use, not merely as water-resistant, which puts it on our hammocks you can leave outside shortlist.
- The travel hammock includes its suspension. Colibri 3.0 ships with 51 in long, 1.6 in wide tree-protection straps and aluminum CrocodileHooks. ENO does not include straps at all.
Where it is weak
- Capacity figures are mid-range. 355 lb across the classic line and 395 lb on the Colibri. That is enough for two adults, but it is below the 450 lb to 550 lb figures on heavy-duty hammocks, and it is a real constraint if two large adults share the bed.
- It is a premium bracket. Every LA SIESTA sits well above the budget complete sets in best hammocks under $100, and you are not getting a stand for the money.
- No stand is included anywhere. The classic hammocks need a 10 ft 2 in span or a frame sized for one; see the hammock stand size guide before you assume a 9 ft set frame will do.
- Cotton is still cotton. The Modesta, Flora, Bossanova, Moki and Iri all absorb water and can mildew. Only the Brisa and Alisio lines are built for weather.
- Colorway stock churns. Individual colors go in and out on both LA SIESTA's own store and Amazon, which is why the picks above resolve to whichever listing is live rather than to a color.
Which LA SIESTA to buy
For a shaded garden or a porch: the Modesta
340 g/m2 organic cotton is the densest weave in the range and the nicest surface in it. Double width at 355 lb means one person gets a proper diagonal lay, which is what makes a gathered-end hammock comfortable rather than a banana — the mechanism our how to make a hammock more comfortable guide is built around. It is 4 lb with no carry bag listed, so treat it as furniture that comes in for winter rather than something you take anywhere. If the porch roof is the anchor, best hammocks for a porch covers the hardware side.
For a hammock that stays out: the Brisa
Same 355 lb, same 11 ft 6 in double size, same 10 ft 2 in span — but 100% polypropylene at 180 g/m2, which LA SIESTA says withstands sun and rain and designs for permanent outdoor use. It is also half the weight of the Modesta at 2.2 lb, so it is far easier to move and store. The trade is hand: polypropylene is firmer and slicker than organic cotton, and nobody who has lain in both would call it the nicer bed. That is the same trade our rope vs fabric comparison covers from the other direction.
For trees, travel or a camping trip: the Colibri 3.0
395 lb, a 10 ft 6 in by 6 ft 3 in bed in the double, 1.8 lb, and — the part that matters — tree-protection straps and aluminum hooks in the bag. Those straps are 1.6 in wide, which is wide enough to be tree-safe as supplied rather than a strap you have to replace. Against a camping hammock proper it is heavier than an ultralight and has no bug net or tarp ecosystem behind it, so it is a travel and lounging hammock that camps rather than a backpacking hammock. If the trip is a real one, best backpacking hammocks is the right page.
For a child's room or garden: the Iri or the Moki
The Iri is the kid-scaled one: 6 ft 11 in by 3 ft 7 in, 175 lb, ages 3 to 10, 1.7 lb, and a 4 ft 11 in minimum span that fits inside rooms where nothing else will. The Moki Dolphy is the family version — 11 ft 6 in by 5 ft 3 in, 355 lb, ages 3 to 99 — and needs an 11 ft 10 in span, which makes it a garden purchase. Both are covered properly in our best kids hammocks roundup.
Is it worth the money?
For a garden hammock you intend to keep for a decade, yes, with one condition: buy the fabric that matches where it will live. The brand's weakness is not build quality or disclosure, both of which are better than the category average. It is that a cotton hammock in a premium bracket left out in the weather will fail the same way a cheap one does, and the published 355 lb ceiling is lower than the headline figures on budget sets. Get those two things right and it is a straightforward recommendation. If you want the full market rather than one brand, best hammocks and best backyard hammocks are the roundups, and best hammock brands places LA SIESTA against everyone else we cover.
Common questions
Are LA SIESTA hammocks good?
Yes, with the usual fabric caveat. They publish more than almost anyone else in the category — fabric density, carrying capacity, and the minimum span and hanging height each model needs — and the classic line is woven in Colombia in organic cotton. Capacities are mid-range at 355 lb, and only the polypropylene Brisa and Alisio lines are built to live outdoors.
How much weight can a LA SIESTA hammock hold?
LA SIESTA publishes 355 lb for the classic Modesta and Brisa doubles and for the padded Moki Dolphy, 395 lb for both Colibri 3.0 travel hammocks, 175 lb for the Iri kids hammock, and 285 lb for the Habana Comfort chair. Always treat the lower of the hammock and its anchor as the real limit.
Can a LA SIESTA hammock stay outside?
The Brisa can — LA SIESTA makes it in polypropylene and positions it for permanent outdoor use. The cotton models (Modesta, Flora, Bossanova, Moki, Iri) should not: cotton absorbs water, stretches when wet and can mildew. Our hammocks you can leave outside page covers the materials that survive a season.
What span does a LA SIESTA hammock need?
It is published per model. The Modesta and Brisa doubles and the Colibri 3.0 double all need a 10 ft 2 in minimum distance and 5 ft 1 in of height; the Colibri single needs 8 ft 10 in and 4 ft 5 in; the Iri kids hammock needs only 4 ft 11 in; and the Moki Dolphy needs 11 ft 10 in.
Does the LA SIESTA Colibri come with straps?
Yes. Both the single and the double ship with tree-protection straps 51 in long and 1.6 in wide, a full strap length of 126 in, and aluminum CrocodileHooks. That is unusual: ENO and several other nylon brands sell straps separately.
Where are LA SIESTA hammocks made?
LA SIESTA is a German company. It publishes Colombia as the country of origin for the cotton classics such as the Modesta and the Iri, and India for the padded Moki line.
