The Best Kids' Hammocks
A kids' hammock is not a small adult hammock with a lower price. It is a hammock chosen around three published numbers — capacity, age range and hanging height — and almost nothing in the category prints all three.

The LA SIESTA Iri is the pick: 175 lb, a published age range of 3 to 10, a 6 ft 11 in by 3 ft 7 in bed, and a 4 ft 11 in minimum span that fits in rooms nothing else will. For a camping trip, the Wise Owl kids hammock is the cheap, straps-included answer. For two children at once, the padded Moki Dolphy publishes 355 lb.
Part of our hammocks hub. This page is about hammocks a child lies in. If what you actually want is a seat that swings — a nest, a pod or a hanging chair — that is a different product with different hardware, and it lives in best hammock swings for kids.

How we chose, and why most kids' hammocks fail the test
Search this category and you will find hundreds of listings with a cartoon print, a weight figure and no other information at all. The weight figure is the least useful number on the page, because a child is nowhere near the fabric's limit — a 500 lb rating tells you about the nylon, not about whether the product suits a six-year-old. What matters is a different set of numbers entirely, and we ranked on them in this order.
- A published age range. Not a marketing age, a published one. It is the only signal that the maker designed around a child's size and judgment rather than shrinking an adult product. LA SIESTA publishes 3 to 10 for the Iri and 3 to 99 for the Moki Dolphy; most brands publish nothing.
- A published minimum span. The number that decides whether the hammock fits the bedroom, the playroom or the two trees you actually have. A 4 ft 11 in span is a different purchase from an 11 ft 10 in one.
- Hanging height, and how low you can go. For a child the right answer is lower than you think: close enough to the ground that a roll-out is a short, uninteresting drop. Any hammock that must hang high to work is the wrong hammock for a small child.
- What is in the box. Straps and hardware included means the hammock hangs the day it arrives. Rope and a knot means a parent is now responsible for the knot, which is covered in hammock rope and knots.
- Material against where it will live. Cotton for indoors, synthetic for outdoors, in exactly the same way as the adult category. Cotton left out mildews, and a child's hammock gets left out.
One thing we did not rank on: capacity. Every hammock on this page publishes a figure far above any child's weight, and the real limit is almost always the anchor rather than the bed — the whole point of hammock weight limits. Treat capacity as a floor you have already cleared, and spend your attention on span and height instead.
The published numbers, side by side
| Pick | Published capacity | Published age range | Size and minimum span |
|---|---|---|---|
| LA SIESTA Iri | 175 lb | 3 to 10 | 6 ft 11 in x 3 ft 7 in; 4 ft 11 in minimum span |
| Wise Owl kids hammock | 500 lb (fabric rating) | Not published | 6 ft x 3 ft 6 in; straps are 9 ft, so a tree span |
| LA SIESTA Moki Dolphy | 355 lb | 3 to 99 | 11 ft 6 in x 5 ft 3 in; 11 ft 10 in minimum span |
| ENO SingleNest | 400 lb | Not published | 114 in x 58 in; needs straps and a tree span |
| Vivere Double Cotton set | 450 lb | Not published | 9 ft stand included, so no span needed |
Two columns do the work here. The age range column tells you which two of these five were actually designed for children. The span column tells you which one can go in a bedroom — and the answer is only the Iri, by a margin of six feet over the Moki.

2. Best kids' camping hammock
Wise Owl Outfitters Kids Hammock
A child-sized parachute-nylon hammock that arrives with its straps and carabiners already in the bag, which is the whole reason it is the easy answer for a kid.
Specifications
- Kid size, one person; sold as a small camping hammock for indoor or outdoor use
- Supplied with tree straps and carabiners, per the live Amazon listing
- Wise Owl's own store lists this kids model as the Owlet: 6 ft long by 3 ft 6 in wide, 500 lb published capacity, 210T parachute nylon, 19.4 oz, packing to 3 x 3 x 5 in, with two D-shaped carabiners, a set of 9 ft straps and a stuff sack
Source: Live Amazon listing (Wise Owl Outfitters Kids Hammock, kid size) and the wiseowloutfitters.com Owlet product page, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- Straps and carabiners are in the box, so there is no second purchase before the first hang
- Scaled to a child rather than being an adult hammock with a child in it
- Packs small enough that a kid can carry their own hammock
Where it falls short
- Wise Owl publishes no recommended age range for it
- Wise Owl's own store has shown the Owlet unavailable, so stock comes and goes outside Amazon
- The 500 lb figure is a fabric rating, not a reason to put three children in it

3. Two kids, or a kid and a parent

- 6.4 lb product weight; made in India
Source: us.lasiesta.com Moki Dolphy product page and the live Amazon listing, 2026. We publish specs we can attribute and leave the rest blank rather than assuming a typical value.
What it does well
- Publishes a capacity, an age range and a minimum hanging height, which almost nothing else in this category does
- Padded edges and a closed, round safety hook rather than an open carabiner
- 355 lb and 5 ft 3 in of width means it holds two children, or a parent reading to one
- Suspension parts come off, so the cotton can go in a machine
Where it falls short
- An 11 ft 10 in minimum span is a garden measurement, not a bedroom one
- 6.4 lb, so it is not a hammock a child carries anywhere
- Cotton and padding are for indoors or a covered porch, not a season outside

The LA SIESTA Iri is the pick, and the span is why
A 4 ft 11 in minimum distance is the most useful specification on this page. It means the hammock hangs between two walls of an ordinary bedroom, across the corner of a playroom, or between a post and a wall on a small deck. Everything else here needs either two trees or most of a garden. Add 175 lb of published capacity, an age range of 3 to 10, 278 g/m2 cotton and a 1.7 lb product weight, and you have the one product in this category that is genuinely sized and specified for a child rather than scaled down from an adult line.
Honest cons: LA SIESTA does not list what hardware comes in the box, so budget for a suspension set and read how to hang a hammock indoors before you drill anything — indoor anchors into studs or masonry are the part of this purchase that deserves real care. It is also unpadded, so it is a plainer bed than the Moki, and it is cotton, so it is an indoor or covered-porch hammock. And at the LA SIESTA bracket it costs several times what a nylon kids' hammock does.
For camping and trees: the Wise Owl kids hammock
This is the one to buy if the use case is a campsite, a park or the two trees at the end of the garden. Wise Owl's own store lists its kids model, the Owlet, at 6 ft by 3 ft 6 in in 210T parachute nylon, 19.4 oz, packing down to 3 by 3 by 5 in, with two D-shaped carabiners, a set of 9 ft straps and a stuff sack included. The live Amazon listing for the kid-size hammock confirms the straps and carabiners ship with it. That matters more than any spec on the page: it hangs the day it arrives, with no second purchase, which is exactly the gap our do hammocks come with straps guide exists to close.
Honest cons: Wise Owl publishes no recommended age range for it, which is the one thing we most want from a kids' product. The 500 lb figure is a fabric rating and not an invitation to put three children in at once. And Wise Owl's own store has shown the Owlet as unavailable, so stock comes and goes outside Amazon. The brand as a whole is covered in our Wise Owl hammock review.
For two children at once: the LA SIESTA Moki Dolphy
The padded Moki is the most thoroughly specified product in this roundup: 355 lb, ages 3 to 99, an 11 ft 6 in by 5 ft 3 in padded organic cotton bed, two 9 ft 10 in ropes, a removable SmartLock safety hook instead of an open carabiner, a MultiSpot mounting system, and LA SIESTA's statement that the suspension systems are TUV Rheinland certified and the product carries a Children's Product Certificate. If the hardware is the part of a kids' purchase that worries you, this is the one that answers it on paper.
Honest cons: it needs an 11 ft 10 in minimum span and 5 ft 11 in of height, which makes it a garden product, not a bedroom one. At 6.4 lb it is not a hammock a child carries anywhere. And it is padded cotton, which is the worst possible combination to leave out in the weather — see can you leave a hammock outside.
For an older kid or a teenager: the ENO SingleNest
At some point a kids' hammock becomes the wrong purchase, and the honest answer is a real adult single. The ENO SingleNest publishes 400 lb on a 114 by 58 in bed at 16 oz in 70D nylon, and Treeline Review names the Nest line its best overall camping hammock. A ten-year-old who has worn out a kids' hammock will keep this one for fifteen years, which is a better buy than a second kids' model.
Honest cons: ENO ships without straps, so add a pair — best hammock straps covers the options and best ultralight hammock straps the lighter end. Single width limits the diagonal lay that makes a hammock comfortable, and there is no published age guidance whatsoever, because this is simply an adult hammock.
If you have no trees: buy a set
The most common way a kids' hammock purchase goes wrong is the same way an adult one does: the hammock arrives and there is nothing to hang it from. A complete set removes the question. The Vivere Double Cotton set publishes 450 lb across the hammock and its 9 ft zinc-coated steel stand, assembles in about 15 minutes with no tools, and was named best bang for the buck in the 2026 Bob Vila stand roundup. A stand also lets you set the hanging height deliberately low, which is the single most useful safety adjustment available for a small child.
Honest cons: it is cotton, so it comes in for winter; the bed is adult-sized rather than child-sized, so a small child sits in a deep curve; and a 9 ft frame is a fixed footprint in a small garden. Our best hammocks with stands roundup covers the whole set market, and how to attach a hammock to a stand covers the assembly.
Hanging a hammock for a child
Four rules cover almost all of it, and all four differ from how an adult hangs one.
- Hang it low. Low enough that the loaded bed sits around a foot off the ground. An adult hammock hangs at about 18 in; for a small child, lower is better, because the failure mode you are designing for is a roll-out, not a fall.
- Use straps, not rope, on trees. Inch-wide or wider webbing spreads the load across the bark; thin cord cuts into it. That is the point of are hammocks bad for trees.
- Keep the sag. Pulling a hammock tight makes it tippier, not safer, and a taut bed is the most common reason a hammock dumps its occupant. How to keep a hammock from flipping has the mechanics.
- Clear the ground underneath. Grass or bark chips, no rocks, no table corners, nothing to land on within an arm's reach of either side.
And the obvious one, which is still worth writing down: a hammock is not a crib or a bed for an infant, and a child young enough to need watching needs watching. Our are hammocks safe guide covers the general case.
What we would not buy
- A hammock with a weight figure and nothing else. No age range, no span, no fabric: that listing is telling you the seller does not know what they are selling.
- A cotton hammock that will live outdoors. It will mildew, and a child's hammock is the one that gets left out in the rain.
- An ultralight camping hammock. 20D and 30D fabrics are superb for a careful adult backpacker and thin for a child who will treat the hammock as a swing.
- A nest swing when you wanted a hammock. They are not substitutes. Nests swing and seat; hammocks lie flat. Best hammock swings for kids is the page if the nest is what you are after.
Common questions
What is the best hammock for kids?
The LA SIESTA Iri, because it is specified for children rather than scaled down from an adult line: 175 lb published capacity, a published age range of 3 to 10, a 6 ft 11 in by 3 ft 7 in cotton bed and a 4 ft 11 in minimum span that fits inside an ordinary room. For camping and trees, the Wise Owl kids hammock is the straps-included answer.
What age can a child use a hammock?
Where makers publish a range it starts at three. LA SIESTA publishes ages 3 to 10 for the Iri and 3 to 99 for the padded Moki Dolphy. Most brands publish nothing at all, which is itself a reason to prefer the ones that do. A hammock is not a sleep surface for an infant.
How high should a kids' hammock hang?
Lower than an adult's. Aim for the lowest point of the loaded bed sitting around a foot off the ground, over grass or bark rather than paving, so that rolling out is a short drop onto something soft. A stand makes this easy to set deliberately rather than guessing from tree height.
Is a hammock safe for a child?
With the right hang, yes, and with supervision for younger children. Hang low, keep the sag rather than pulling the hammock tight, use wide tree straps instead of cord, and clear the ground on both sides. A product with a published age range and certified suspension hardware, like the LA SIESTA kids line, removes some of the guesswork.
Can two kids share one hammock?
Only in a hammock wide enough and rated for it. The LA SIESTA Moki Dolphy publishes 355 lb on a 5 ft 3 in wide bed and an age range of 3 to 99, which is the pick here for two children. Do not read a single-occupant hammock's high fabric rating as permission to put two in it.
How much does a kids' hammock cost?
We do not publish price figures in prose, because they move — every buy button here shows the current Amazon price through our price feed. In bracket terms, a nylon kids' camping hammock is the cheapest honest entry point, the specified cotton kids hammocks sit in a mid to premium bracket, and a complete hammock-and-stand set lands between the two once you count both halves.
